What is Community Jobs program (CJP)?
A welfare-to-work program that provides paid work experience, professional development, case management and job coaching to individuals in the CalWORKS and PAES programs, helping them to successfully transition from public assistance to self-sufficiency.
What is Unique about CJP?
CJP provides on-the-job training/transitional employment opportunities that allow participants to engage in subsidized employment at nonprofit community-based organizations. By combining paid work experience with training and support, CJP offers participants the opportunity to address their individual barriers to employment I the context of a real work environment. In addition, participants are able to present future employers with a resume and current references that reflect this work experience.
CJP is structed in two Tiers:
- Tier 1 is a two month Situational Assessment program. The objective is to see if interns are work ready, with the possible outcome after the two months of being referred to CJP Tier 2.
- Tier 2 is a six month on the job work experience training program. Clients are placed at a Non-Profit Job Host Site to gain the work experience within the job filed they like. CJP Tier 2 main objective is to prepare and assist the interns to find full-time employment either before the six months and/or by the time the intern completes the program.
What are the Scope of Services?
- Paid work Full-time participant work 25 hours per week in a nonprofit host-site that offers work experience that matches the participants vocational goal
- Classroom training Full-time participants attend seven hours per week of professional development classes for 16 weeks, which includes computer applications, pre-GED skills, workplace literacy and business practices
- Individual job coaching Available for participants who are having difficulty performing job tasks or are having difficulty adapting to the work environment
- Counseling Individuals may include participation in mental health, substance abuse, and/or domestic violence counseling as part of their CJP program
