Assessment: the first step towards transformation
The decision to come to Goodwill for assessment reflects the first stage of personal transformation - the self-awareness of the need for change combined with willingness to take action. The assessment process initiates translating that insight into a vision of a better future. With informed choice as the guide, participants assess their strengths, skills and abilities, define their challenges and begin to develop career goals with a plan to obtain them.

Assessment Activities
The assessment process includes but is not limited to the following activities:

  • Individual intake appointments, including psycho-social and behavioral health screens
  • Basic skills and pre-GED testing when applicable
  • On-line PESCO vocational assessment, including basic skills, aptitudes, task and occupational   preferences
  • Other paper & pencil questionnaire/assessments
  • Work history evaluation
  • Drug screen
  • Work based evaluation.

Reports and Recommendations
With this information, staff develops recommendations for the best way for each person to define and implement the next steps towards their career goals.

Participants who complete assessment services will be provided with a copy of their vocational results. The purpose of the report is to guide the participant in the next steps of their vocational plan.

Next Steps: Outcomes of Assessment Process
The primary outcome of the assessment process is referral to programs or services at Goodwill and/or other agencies in the best immediate interests of that participant at this time. These may include but are not limited to one or more of the following:

  • Enrollment in GED preparation or Adult Basic Education
  • Enrollment in City College certificate or AA programs
  • Referral to other vocational or training programs
  • Referral to behavioral or mental health supports
  • Referral to Goodwill's work based learning
